Netflix and Our Daughters

As mothers of daughters, it’s a constant worry about what influences there are in our daughter’s lives. Often times, beyond their peer groups, it’s role models from the entertainment they choose that can have a lasting effect. We want our daughters watching shows where the girls/females set a good example and have a positive influence.

One show that has been a favourite in our house is Project Mc2.  The first season of this series came out in 2015, and since then 2 more seasons were released in 2016.   The show is about the adventures of McKeyla McAlister and her best friends, who work for a government organization called NOV8, a highly secretive group of female government operatives who are trying to protect the world.  What my daughter (and I) like about this series is that the girls are portrayed as smart and bright. One is an engineer with a high IQ, one a chemist making science cool and another a smart tech junkie.  I love that it encourages young girls in an indirect way to work hard and study to be smart. It helps show women can be anything!

What Mom doesn’t love Julie Andrews? She is one of our faves and new this month on Netflix is her new show Julie’s Greenroom.  This is brought to life by the Jim Henson Company,  and advocates for the arts and the positive impact creativity can have on a child’s life. I have not yet watched this show, but look forward to it and it sounds like a great message!
