Everything Old Is New Again

If you’re like me, one of the conversations you didn’t like listening to when you were younger, was the one that began….When I was Young I used to…..from your parents! Well lately I find I am saying that to my kids…..as I see toys and shows that have “come back”.

There is something pretty cool about connecting with your kids over something you remember as a child and were fond of. It offers a glimpse into what you were like as a child, and gives a way to relive your childhood.

One of my favourite shows growing up was The Smurfs. Hands down, I would watch every episode, Christmas special, etc – and I collected all of the little Smurfs. I had a Smurf Hotel in my room, complete with shoebox elevator for them to go upstairs in their Hotel.

I was glad to see that Netflix has the recent ‘The Smurfs’ movie and enjoyed rewatching it with my kids (saw it when it first came out). The kids were most impressed I knew the names of some of the characters, and allowed me to tell them about my toy Smurf collection. Made my day when my daughter saw little Smurfs at a store not too long ago and saved her allowance money so she could buy a couple!

Other throwback titles we’ve enjoyed and look forward to watching are: Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated, Garfield & Friends, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

So it really is true that everything old becomes new again – and I love that in the case of Netflix shows as it allows a new generation to see some of the beloved characters we grew up with! Happy Viewing!
