You can’t turn on the TV, drive down the road or go to a party without being confronted with America’s hottest obsession: weight. Diets are a billion-dollar industry; companies spend millions and millions luring you to try the latest diet (low carb, high protein, low fat, no fat, you name it) with promises that this will (finally!) be the solution—your shortcut to a thinner body. Advertising efforts also deeply affect our children, who develop distorted body images and are often on diets as early as nine or 10 years of age.Read more...
Move over boys, the girls are back in town! How did it become common practice for men to be deemed the masters of the BBQ grill? In my house, it’s an argument over who gets to BBQ. My husband thinks he’s the better griller and it should be only his domain but quite frankly I love nothing more than heating up the grill and cooking our entire dinner over the coals. I love the simplicity of a meal cooked on a BBQ and the beautiful flavours that come from grilling everything from fresh vegetables to succulent peaches and plums and of course the ever popular steak. But hands down my favourite recipe for a great summer time BBQ is Grilled Shrimp & Chorizo Skewers with Spicy Bourbon Mustard. These are so easy and quick to prepare, can be used as an appetizer or as a main meal and pair nicely with a cold beer or a glass of Pinot Gris. Read More....

Staci Edwards, Designer and President of Switch Studio enjoys taking old furniture pieces, giving them a little TLC and a whole lot of style by redesigning, refinishing, and reupholstering them into beautiful one of a kind pieces for her clients to love! As a professional Designer, there were always certain aspects of design that captured Staci’s heart from early on, and those were the relationships between form, colour, texture, and pattern. “… And I’ve always been drawn to the art of upholstery and furniture refinishing; I remember redoing furniture pieces I salvaged from my grandparents’ basement as I child, it was one of my favourite things to do.” Staci recalls. She also saw a need for the public to have access to custom pieces and designer fabrics for their homes without the hassle of visiting various showrooms and several workrooms – And so, Switch Studio was born! I know we are all amazing multi-taskers flying by at lightning speed to get everything done in as short amount of time as possible. I am sooo guilty of this, or should I say, was. As a triple AAA personality, it’s been one of the toughest changes I have had to make in my life. That and regular enhancement of my once naturally golden locks. White is the new blonde and it’s called “The Compound Effect”. Read More...
Do your kids watch reality TV? If so, perhaps you should consider the effects of reality TV on their view of themselves and those around them.
